History

1831: The museum’s beginning dates all the way back to the time around 1831, when the Sinsheim deacon and antiquity researcher Karl Wilhelmi founded the “Sinsheimer Antiquarium”.” After his death, the archaeological collection was transferred to the art collection of the Grand Duchy of Karlsruhe.
In 1946, Georg Zink started a new collection in the upper rooms of the city hall. Everything from furniture, textiles, toys to Karl Wilhelmi and Franz Sigel memorabilia was collected.
In 1975, city hall was moved to Wilhelmstrasse and the museum was set up in the Historic City Hall. Many Sinsheim citizens donated valuable gifts to the museum.
In 1983, parts of Karl Wilhelmi’s “Sinsheimer Antiquarium” returned to Sinsheim as a loaned exhibit from the Baden State Museum in Karlsruhe.
In 1989, the “Friends of Sinsheim History” e.V. became honorary custodians of the museum.
Since 1990, the museum has been under the full-time direction of Holger Friederich, Diploma in Cultural Sciences, who is also responsible for the city archives.
In 2002, the museum was awarded the main prize for “Exemplary Hometown Museum” in the administrative region of Karlsruhe.
